Hydropower
Throughout its long history Grotnes Steel AS has delivered a range of components for hydropower projects. It all started with deliveries to Kværner and ABB back in the 1970s, and we continue to supply many leading manufacturers today.
Bucket handle for turbine Weighted levers Thrust bearing for generator Proprietary welding technology for coarse plates was used.
The Millennium Bridge
Parts for the Millennium Bridge in London, UK Wire clamps manufactured for Monberg & Thorsen A/S. All clamps were cut by Grotnes and machined by our then sister company Miras Multimaskin.
The Höga Kusten Bridge
Between May 1995 and December 1996 Grotnes delivered parts for one of Europe’s longest suspension bridges, the Höga Kusten Bridge on the new E4 in Sweden. Product development, cutting, welding, machining and surface treatment were key elements of the project.
- 156 suspension components for the suspension cables’ anchorages
- 2 cable clamps for the middle section of the bridge covering,
- for cable diameters of 630
- 4 tower saddles for the main cable
- Winch drum
On assignment from Hydramarine, Grotnes manufactured winch drums in 700-steel for deep-sea cranes. The cranes will be installed on supply vessels, with the actual drums positioned below deck.
